What is Peace OUT? 

PeaceOUT is an international gathering of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender hip-hop artists, activists, fans and supporters to celebrate the LGBT presence in hip-hop music and culture. Originally hosted by East Bay Pride, it is produced by sugartruck recordings in conjunction with Phat Family Records.  The festival has taken place annually since 2001 in Oakland, California and will feature live music, DJs, spoken word, dance and performance events.

PeaceOUT is the first and only hip-hop performance event hosted by a pride festival in a major U.S. city and will feature independent LGBT hip-hop artists from throughout the U.S. and Europe.

The first PeaceOUT World Homo Hop Festival was held in Oakland, California in August 2001 and has become an annual tradition, and its popularity enabled the creation of sister events of Peace Out East ,Peace Out South,PeaceOutNorthwest(Portland,Oregon), and PeaceOutUK (London) which have extended the tradition nationally and internationally. The original PeaceOUT shifts to a bi-annual basis, with the next festival slated for SEPTEMBER 2009.

Will this be an open mic event? Can anyone participate?

PeaceOUT is an international showcase featuring the best in LGBT hip-hop from across the U.S. and around the world. While not all Homo Hop performers are able to make it to Oakland for the festival, we have made every effort to present a diverse lineup of artists with a broad range of talents including MCing, DJing, art and theatre.

Where can I learn more about LGBT hip-hop artists?

A number of LGBT hip-hop performers are listed on the Phat Family Records and Sugartruck Recordings homepages. Most of them have their own websites with photos, MP3s and CDs available for sale.
